Meaning: I know who I am and what I want

The first chakra is Muladhara, which means root in Sanskrit. Hence, we also call this chakra the Root Chakra. This energy center represents our basic needs, namely survival and security. It is our connection to the physical world. If your energy is flowing well in the first chakra then you feel grounded, stable, secure and well connected to your physical body. You are firmly grounded. A well active Root Chakra creates confidence and a sense of security. Confidence in yourself, the people and the world around you. The chakra also lets you occupy your space: I am important, I am allowed to be there. The Root Chakra has earthas its element and the color fire red. Grounding helps you stay in the now and manifest your dreams (faster). When the energy flows well in this chakra, more energy is released for the life of your choice.

Where is your root chakra located?

Your Root Chakra is located at the bottom of your spine in the pelvic region. So this chakra is literally at your roots. This is because our life energy (also called Chi or Kundalini energy) rises from our pelvic bottom and moves up through the spine. Your Root Chakra itself is directed downward, toward the earth. This chakra literally draws energy from the magnetic field at the heart of the earth. This energy rises up through the foot chakras and legs, providing a grounding energy to the blood and tissue in the body. The foot chakras provide the transmission of the earth energy and allow negative energy to drain away.

Root chakra in balance

Someone where this chakra is well active feels satisfied, is stable and believes in their inner strength. You can easily ground yourself and you have confidence in yourself and the environment. You are also conscious of your body and you know what your body needs. This can be healthy food, but also exercise. You feel connected to the earth and you are practical. An active Root Chakra creates trust and a sense of security. Confidence in yourself, the people and the world around you. The chakra also lets you occupy your space:I am important, I am allowed to be there. So it is important that the energy flows well through your Root Chakra, because it is the basis of the chakras. And in doing so, chakras influence our mental and physical processes.

Root Chakra Out of Balance

When your Root Chakra is out of balance, you may feel anxious and restless. You lack confidence in yourself and your body. Imbalance can cause you to experience a strong attachment to materials, or can cause a rejection of them. You find setting boundaries difficult and you are looking for a lot of security. You feel a rejection of yourself and of life, you feel ungrounded and can experience hatred or aggression towards others. If your Root Chakra is too active then you experience that you are more materialistic, slow and greedy. Is it the other way around and your chakra is inactive? Then you feel anxious, rushed and nervous. If a root chakra is completely closed then you feel powerless and dissatisfied. This is accompanied by physical complaints in your lower back, bones, legs or intestines.

Connected to the physical body

The Root Chakra is physically connected to the spine, kidneys, adrenals and cortisol production. Diseases related to this chakra are associated with complaints in your lower back, bladder, prostate, intestines, bones, pelvis, legs and hips.

Color Root Chakra

Your Root Chakra is the color red and this chakra has a very dense vibration. You can trace the red color to the physical body, such as the muscles. You can also trace this to the earth. Often the energy of mother earth is associated with the color red. The color red also represents passion, aggression, energy, activity, warmth and love.

Fitting Stones

Each gemstone has its own vibrational frequency. Just as words, feelings, thoughts and emotions (and basically everything inside and outside of us) have their own energy and their own vibrational frequency, so do our chakras. The energy of these gems resonates with the energy of the root chakra, and therefore helps you to open this chakra, for example by meditating with it and connecting to the energy of the stone (in your mind).
