Labradorite is my favorite stone, and there is a good reason for that. On this page I would like to share a personal story about how this stone helped me during a period when I was not doing well. Perhaps you will recognize something in it. Perhaps you are in the middle of a hectic phase yourself, feel everything coming in harder than you would like, or are simply curious about what a stone like Labradorite can do for you. Either way, thank you for reading along.
How I Lost Myself in the Fast Life
A number of years ago I had a great job. I flew around the world, lived the fast life and worked under enormous pressure in a company culture where failure was not really an option. At the same time I was the father of four daughters and tried to be a good husband and dad at home. That rollercoaster had been running at full speed for a couple of years.
Without noticing, I had arranged my whole life around my work. I spent entire days inside my head, and the days slipped through my fingers. Slowly I lost something that matters deeply: the contact and feeling with myself and with my family. My body was sending all kinds of signals, but by then I had accepted them as an annoying side effect of working hard. Things were going downhill, I just did not want to see it yet.
The Conference in Chicago I Was Dreading
Around that time I got in touch with a naturopathic therapist. I told her I was dreading a big conference in Chicago. For four long days I would be talking to people from my industry, presenting and networking. I could not bring myself to cancel the trip, but I was dreading it enormously.
Lately, sounds, light and the energy of other people had been coming in far too strongly. My head filled up in no time. I would feel distant from everything and everyone, as if my body and mind were locking themselves away for protection. My therapist gave me a Labradorite and said: carry this with you during the conference.
A Labradorite in My Pocket
I felt an immediate connection with the stone. I could not quite place it yet, but I felt better with the Labradorite in my pocket. Before long I was taking it everywhere.
More than 35,000 people attended the conference in Chicago, and that does a lot to your energy. Yet I noticed something remarkable. Despite the crowds, I felt more solid on my feet, more grounded. I could keep a healthy distance from the people I spoke with and felt considerably less drained during the sometimes intense conversations. It was as if a soft layer surrounded me that gently muted the stimuli, without making me feel closed off.
What I Felt with Labradorite in My Hand
After a long day of presenting, I often sought out the quiet of my hotel room in the evening. I liked to withdraw for a while. My Labradorite stayed close to me, and precisely in that silence I could feel the stone even better.
I clearly felt energy swirling through my body and flowing down into the earth. It was as if the stone was scanning my body and my energy. I experienced a wonderful tingling in my belly and at the crown of my head. Stimuli came in less harshly, and the stone gave me a sense of calm and safety I had not felt in a long time. For the first time in ages, I felt like I was back with myself.
Cracked, Thanked and Returned to the Earth
I kept the Labradorite with me for the entire conference, and I am convinced that week would have gone very differently without it. Of course such a conference is intense and you are tired by the end. But I was not drained and exhausted, and the panic I had been so afraid of never came.
By the end of the week, the Labradorite had cracked completely. For me, that was the moment to thank this wonderful stone and let it go. I returned it to the earth. Since that conference I have always kept a Labradorite within reach, and my search for what stones can mean to a person had really only just begun. In the end, that search led to Kristalmeester.
Why Labradorite Suits Sensitive People So Well
Only later did I understand why this stone suited me so well. Labradorite is a feldspar that looks gray at first glance, but as soon as light hits it, a glow of blue, green and gold breaks loose. That flash, called labradorescence, comes from the structure of the stone itself. On an energetic level, Labradorite is seen as a kind of cloak around your aura: it is said to help you keep your own energy with you instead of unknowingly giving it away to your surroundings. It is also associated with grounding, intuition and transformation. Exactly the things I needed so badly in Chicago.
Many people who are sensitive to crowds, noise and the moods of others recognize that feeling of running empty by the end of the day. For them, Labradorite is a fine companion, because it helps you stay open without absorbing everything. Would you like to know more about the meaning, properties and care of this stone? Please note: gemstones can offer support on an emotional and energetic level, but are never a substitute for medical or professional care. If you have any complaints or concerns, always consult your physician.
How I Use Labradorite Today
What I learned in Chicago, I still put into practice. A few tips from my own experience:
- Carry a Labradorite stone in your pocket or bag on days that promise to be busy. Simply closing your hand around it is often enough to come back to yourself.
- Choose a Labradorite bracelet or a Labradorite pendant if you prefer to wear the stone on your skin all day without having to think about it.
- Take a few minutes of silence in the evening with the stone in your hand. Breathe calmly and feel whether your energy can settle down toward your feet.
- Cleanse and charge your Labradorite regularly, especially after an intense period. You can read how in our blog "The cleansing and charging of gemstones".
Frequently Asked Questions about Labradorite and Overstimulation
Does Labradorite help with overstimulation?
Labradorite is associated with shielding your energy, which is why outside stimuli seem to come in less harshly. Many sensitive people experience more calm and more distance from the busyness around them with this stone. It is support on an energetic level, not a substitute for professional care.
What is the best way to carry Labradorite?
The simplest way is a tumbled stone or amulet stone in your pocket or bag, so you can hold it during the day. If you want to wear the stone on your skin all the time, a bracelet or pendant is a lovely choice.
What does it mean when your Labradorite cracks?
A Labradorite can crack from a fall or a knock, because the stone has good cleavage. Many people also experience a cracked stone as a sign that it has done its work. What you believe is up to you; I returned my own stone to the earth with gratitude.
